"Stephen Girard, A Philadelphia Legacy"

Girard College held a premiere of the documentary film about founder Stephen Girard on December 6, 2011 at the Independence Seaport Museum. Commissioned by Girard College and underwritten by two Girard alumni, the film tells the true and fascinating story of Stephen Girard: Merchant, Patriot, Humanitarian and Benefactor.

Representatives of more than 35 community organizations attended the premiere.Over 300 people were in the audience and learned (many for the first time) about the life of a great Philadelphian and a great American.

The event began with a French-themed reception in honor of Girard's native country. Attendees enjoyed a performance by the Junior Cavaliers choir and remarks from:

  • Kevin Feeley, Girard alumnus and president of Bellevue Communications
  • Film Producer Sam Katz of History Making Productions
  • David L. Cohen, EVP of Comcast Communications
    who gave the keynote address
  • Girard President Autumn A. Graves
  • Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter
