SOPHOMORE SPRINTER EARNS NATIONAL RANKING
On March 11, Girard sophomore and super-sprinter Thelma Davies competed at the national indoor track meet in New York, placing third in the 60m race. This event brought together the top runners in the U.S., and Davies proudly took her place on the medal stand.
Davies has has quite a season! She ran the 55-meter race in 6.82 seconds at the Millrose Games (NY) on Saturday, February 11, 2017, breaking the previous record and earning first place status in the USA.
On Saturday, February 25, she placed first in BOTH of her events at the state indoor competition. She ran the 60-meter race in 7.38 seconds and ran the 200-meter race in 24.04 seconds.

Earlier this season, Davies dominated the Hispanic Games held January 7, also in New York. Click here to watch the interview with PA MileSplit aired immediately after those races.
And on Saturday February 17, she placed first in the 60-meter with a time of 7.743, running at the DVGTCA (Delaware Valley Girls Track Coaches Association) meet at Lehigh University.
Davies success is part of a Girard College tradition of competitiveness in track. She is coached by alumnus Diamond Woolford, class of 1999, who excelled in track when he was a Girard student.
