Founder's Day Photos
Saturday May 18, 2013
The rain held off on Founder's Day for the traditional wreath ceremony at Founder's Hall.
Alumni, family and friends reconnected outside of the Chapel, and then Hummers marched in by class group.
The alumni choir performed, and Stephen Girard award recipient Joseph Glasser '42 (upper right) expressed his gratitude. Representing the 50th reunion class, Joseph Flaherty '63 (lower left) gave a hilarious speech about what it was like to be at Girard College during their era. On the dais (lower right) were GCAA Director Joe Garbarino '71, GCAA VP Tony Schiavo '59, Glasser and Girard College president Clarence D. Armbrister.
After Chapel, author Lew Rinko '52 (upper left) sold his book "The Unique Childhood of a Hummer" (proceeds went to the GCAA), two friends were honored (upper right) for their years as scout masters (Robert Miller for 61 years and alumnus Chuck Perry '64 for 43 years), and the class of 1963 planted a tree in memorium.
Later in the afternoon, the president held a dessert reception on campus for all guests.
Finally, we congratulate the members of the class of 1943 (top, 70th reunion), the class of 1953 (middle, 60th reunion) and the class of 1963 (bottom, 50th reunion).
