Greetings Girard Family,
I am thrilled to be joining this very special family.
In my first few days here I am learning so much, and my respect and admiration for Girard College continues to grow. The reason for that is simple: the work done here every day has impact.
Preparing scholars for the future they will inherit, and ultimately own, is no simple feat. And yet Girard College has an enduring legacy of transforming lives and helping young people build paths toward their future. This year, we will celebrate this legacy with a series of events that mark 170 years of Stephen Girard’s extraordinary vision and also the 50th anniversary of racial integration at the College.
Truly, I have arrived at an exciting and meaningful time. This year of celebration and retrospection also comes after the College has spent much of last year reflecting on where we are and strategic planning for our future. I am excited to lead the conclusion of the strategic plan and to embark on our next chapter – there is much to be done!
What is clear to me is that Stephen Girard’s desire to “cultivate minds and [develop] moral principles” in young people remains a powerful call to action. Our mission can only be made better by ensuring that the next generation is equipped to think critically and express themselves authentically and powerfully. Our students must advocate for the future they envision, so that they may shape it thoughtfully and intentionally.
I look forward to meeting more of you at our upcoming events this year, whether you’re joining us for the Winter Concert or a panel discussion on our fascinating history. I am delighted to serve the Girard community. Together we will create a strong future for the College, for our students, and for Philadelphia and beyond.
I look forward to learning from all of you, working alongside many of you, and, together, writing the next great story of Girard College.
