Opening the Gates: A Year of Discussion and Commemoration

As Girard College celebrates its 170th year, we will be commemorating the 50th anniversary of the integration of the school in 1968, a landmark event not just for Girard but also well beyond our gates.

Join us for an exhibit and speaker series throughout the 2018-2019 school year that will reflect on some of the important changes at Girard in the last fifty years, as well as that which has not changed: the core mission of providing access to educational excellence for economically-disadvantaged students.

Opening the Gates, a self-guided exhibition on the integration of Girard College, is on display in Founder’s Hall through June. Resources for educators can be found here.
