Athletics and Extended Day Program Highlights

It was a busy semester for the Girard Athletics and Extended Day Programs! Our Boys and Girls Soccer Teams competed well in the Penn-Jersey Athletic Association, with the Boys team finishing as conference runners-up.

There were plenty of opportunities for physical fitness in the EDP offerings, including Sports Conditioning with Mr. Mobley, Morning Fitness with Ms. Slowey-Johnson, and Yoga with TK. Plus with partnerships with groups like Soccer Shots, Eyekonz Field Hockey, and Philadelphia City Rowing, students of all ages were able to try new sports for the first time.

Speaking of new programs, kudos to Mr. McNair for leading our Middle School Wrestling EDP! The group learned a lot during the season and capped it off with a trip to see the teams from Drexel and Penn compete.

But Girard offers so much more than sports. Programs like ECO Foundations taught entrepreneurship and expression through words and pictures, and the Chess program is going strong under the direction of Mr. Greubel and a partnership with Temple. Plus there was lots of aquatic activity this fall, with Swimming, Lifeguard Certification, and SCUBA Diving.

Finally, our Acting EDP worked with Cycerli Ash (Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists) to write, act, and film an original short film called Ty-Ed Up, which premiered with a screening in Founder’s Hall.

Congratulations and thank you to all our students, teachers, coaches, and partners for a great fall season!
