Girard College Students Challenged to ‘Pay It Forward’ with $50k Gift from Wells Fargo

During a presentation at the Girard College Chapel, scholarship students at the historic 1st-12th grade boarding school were challenged to use the gifts they have been given to help someone else in kind. Tiffany Tavarez, Vice President of Community Relations at Wells Fargo, drove home the message that “paying it forward is not just a thing that you do; it’s a way that you live.” Ms. Tavarez presented a check for $50,000 that will benefit the students’ education and support their social impact initiatives.

Wells Fargo has been a steadfast supporter of Girard College, where students from families with demonstrated financial need are prepared for advanced education and supported in positively impacting their communities. Girard cultivates a culture of philanthropy throughout its academic and residential programs, and students engage in community service activities like toiletry drives for the homeless and fundraising for breast cancer research.

Ms. Tavarez shared with students her experiences of times when she benefited from someone else’s generosity, and what it taught her about living life with gratitude.

“Your education may have a cost,” she said, “but its true value is up to you.”
