honoring the legacy
of Kristopher Minners

At Girard College, compassion and kindness are more than values – they’re part of who we are. To celebrate those qualities, Girard has established the Kristopher Minners Memorial Fund and Award in memory of Kristopher Minners, a beloved residential advisor and proud alumnus whose life was tragically cut short by gun violence in June 2022.

Kris was known for his bright spirit and his ability to make everyone feel seen, valued, and supported. He brought positivity and joy to the students he mentored, proudly shaping their lives both inside and outside the classroom. This annual award ensures that his legacy of empathy and care continues to inspire future generations of Girard students.

“Each year, one sixth-grade student who demonstrates outstanding kindness, compassion, and empathy will receive the Kristopher Minners Memorial Award. The recipient will be nominated by faculty and residential staff and honored during the College’s annual Awards Chapel ceremony – a celebration of the heart and character that Kris embodied every day.

“My family and I have been so touched by the outreach from everyone in the Girard community,” shared Rebecca Minners, Kris’ mother. “To know that Kris made such an impact in his short time here, and that students will remember his passion and heart for years to come, is a comfort and a blessing.”

The connection between Girard students and their residential advisors is truly special. As part of the College’s five-day boarding program, RAs serve as mentors, role models, and family – guiding students toward academic success and personal growth. In addition to the memorial fund, Girard will also name the Residential Advisor of the Month Award in Kris’ honor, keeping his memory alive through the values he lived by every day.
