Responding to New Challenges

As we all continue to navigate the COVID-19 crisis, many members of the Girard College community, including alumni, friends and partner organizations, have asked how you can help our students in these uncertain times.

In response, we have established the COVID-19 Relief Fund for Girard College.

What Will the COVID-19 Relief Fund Support?

Some of the priorities that the relief fund will address include:

  • Supporting graduating seniors whose college financial aid packages have been affected due to the coronavirus pandemic
  • Enhancing instructional technology and training and purchasing Chromebooks and iPads
  • Providing mental health and wellness support for students, families, and staff
  • Increasing learning support and additional instruction for students
  • Purchasing additional cleaning supplies, services & equipment

CARES Act Provides Tax Benefits to Donors

With the passing of the CARES Act, most individual taxpayers will become eligible for significant tax benefits for charitable contributions made this year. Two of these benefits will be:

  • A $300 Above-the-Line Charitable Deduction, meaning that individuals who do not itemize their deductions will be eligible to claim up to $300 of charitable deductions in 2020, on top of the standard deduction.
  • Modified Limitations on Cash Charitable Contributions – For 2020, the 60% AGI limitation on cash contributions to 501(c)(3) organizations is suspended for 2020, excluding cash contributions to private foundations and Donor Advised Funds.
