At the conclusion of each school year, Girard College presents the Distinguished Service Award to a staff member who exemplifies the highest quality of work, a positive attitude, and commitment to the goals of the College. Recipients of this prestigious award must demonstrate a dedication to the mission of the school, an outstanding level of professionalism, and evidence of a significant contribution to the community.

Bill Brown, public safety officer at Girard College since 2017, has been selected as the 2024 Distinguished Service Award Winner.

Those who nominated Bill emphasized his dependability and enthusiasm for his work ensuring the safety of everyone on campus.

Here are a few comments from Bill’s colleagues:

“Bill has the respect of the students, staff and visitors. He is always willing to go out of his way to assist others with a friendly and calming demeanor.”

“Bill’s work ethic and respect for others is commendable. His dedication to the school is unmatched purely in attendance and promptness. Bill loves this place and rarely misses a day of work. Lateness does not exist in his vocabulary.”

“Bill is always thorough in the daily patrols which is an indication of his commitment to the protection of the campus. Bill is the senior member of the security team and has served as a training officer for new employees, including the director of security. Bill makes my day better just by being here.”

Prior to working at Girard College, Bill spent many years working on the production line at an Ocean Spray plant. Following his production work, Bill held a variety of positions before becoming a safety officer at Girard.
