Teaching is Leading
Teach at Girard
“A great place to be a great teacher”
Committed to recruiting outstanding teachers to accelerate the academic progress of its student body, Girard College is now offering signing bonuses of $5,000 for deeply committed and experienced urban educators.
Girard College is a historic residential school in North Philadelphia, where all 300 students in Grades 1-12 are recipients of full scholarships that include five-day residential support on the school’s spectacular 43-acre walled campus.
In addition to a signing bonus, Girard offers a very competitive compensation and benefit package for teachers. Girard’s educational model offers a robust and intensive academic program that includes a range of SEL supports designed to improve academic and social behavior for its students, the vast majority of whom are from Philadelphia. Teachers at Girard, however, do not have to live within city limits.
“Our purpose in offering signing bonuses is to encourage outstanding teachers to take advantage of the attractive opportunity that teaching at Girard College represents,” said Christopher Goins, Girard’s new President. “We are looking for teachers who are experienced in the classroom and have a deep understanding of this community demographic, to help foster an environment that is genuinely affirming for our students.”
“Our students are Girard’s best advertising for prospective teachers,” Goins said. Because of Girard’s competitive admissions policy, students arrive on grade level, are prepared to be pushed academically, and benefit from great teaching.
“Girard provides for all its students’ wholistic needs, including food, clothing, health care, and a residential life program designed to support Girard’s instructional program,“ Goins said
“Girard is a physically and psychologically safe community for students, teachers, and staff, a place that is focused entirely on preparing our students to become life-long learners and productive citizens.
“Girard College is a great place to be a great teacher,” Goins said.
