Kristopher Minners Memorial Fund
Each year, a 6th grade student who demonstrates compassion and kindness will receive an award in honor of the residential advisor who lost his life to gun violence.
Girard College has established a memorial fund in honor of Kristopher Minners, the residential advisor and former student who tragically lost his life to gun violence in June 2022. Funds raised in Kris’ name will create a lasting impact for Girard students who embody his enduring characteristics of kindness, compassion, and empathy.
“Kris was a bright light who attracted positivity wherever he went,” said Sylvia Bastani, Chief Advancement Officer. “His students loved him, and he was so proud to be working at Girard and making an impact on their lives. This award will keep his memory alive for generations of students to come.”
Because Minners’ first assignment as a residential advisor was a section of 6th grade boys, the award in his name will go to one 6th grade student who exhibits the caring qualities for which Kris was known. Students will be nominated and selected by academic and residential faculty, and the award will be presented each year during the Awards Chapel ceremony.
“My family and I have been so touched by the outreach from everyone in the Girard community,” said Rebecca Minners, Kris’ mother. “To know that Kris made such an impact in his short time here, and that students will remember his passion and heart for years to come, is a comfort and blessing.”
The relationship between students and their RA is a special one. With the College’s five-day boarding program, residential advisors become part of a student’s family as they prepare them for academic and career success while nurturing social and emotional growth. In addition to the memorial fund, the RA of the Month award will also bear Kris’ name.
