Brandon A. Herbert Named Director of Admissions

Brandon HerbertGirard College is pleased to announce that Brandon A. Herbert has been named Director of Admissions, effective immediately. Brandon has served as the Assistant Director of Admissions since 2017.

Dr. Heather Wathington, Girard College President, said of the appointment: “Brandon is a student-centered and mission-driven educator who brings passion and dedication to his work. His understanding of our community’s goals and values make him an excellent fit to guide prospective families to Girard College.”

Born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland, Brandon has personal experience with residential-based education, having attended the McDonogh School, a 5-day independent boarding school in Owings Mill, MD. A talented student-athlete, Brandon played Division I basketball at Binghamton University before transferring to the University of the District of Columbia, where he graduated with a B.A. in Sociology.

In 2012, Brandon began his professional career teaching and mentoring students in Baltimore City Public Schools as well as giving back to the McDonogh School as the assistant to the Director of the Middle Grades Partnership program and JV Basketball Coach.

When a mentor introduced him to Girard College in 2016, Brandon traveled north to visit campus and was immediately struck by the beauty of the architecture and vibrance of the community. As he learned more about the College’s rich history and the mission of its founder, Stephen Girard, Brandon knew this was a place he could make an impact.

In January 2017, Brandon joined the Admissions Office as the Assistant Director, and in 2018, helped launch the DREEAMS @ Girard Middle Grades Partnerships Program. Now as Director of Admissions, Brandon will work to enroll students that can grow and thrive within the College’s unique culture.

“I’m very honored to accept the Director of Admissions position,” says Brandon. “Thank you to Dr. Wathington for this opportunity and to my colleagues for their support. Throughout my life, I have been fortunate to have amazing coaches, teachers, and mentors that have genuinely cared for me and led me to a career in education. I try to bring those same qualities to my work with prospective Girard students and their families.”

Brandon and his fiancé, Brittany, have a 1-year old daughter together, Brynn, and he is currently enrolled at the University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Education, pursuing a master’s degree in School Leadership.
